About Baseball

Many believe that baseball is an American invention. However, upon closer inspection it bears striking resemblance to other ballgames, mainly: bounders, vigaro, and cricket. Baseball, as we know it now is accredited to Mr. Alexander Cartwright (1820 to 1892) of New York who is said to have invented the modern baseball field in 1945. He also compiled and published an early list of baseball rules (called the Knickerbocker rules) in the same year, from which the modern rules have evolved.

From the neighborhood sandlot to the Olympics, people everywhere love to play and watch baseball.
