1865 – professional baseball began
1869 – the Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional team
1871 - National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was established
1876 – the National League was founded as the first major league
1878 – Frederick Winthrop Thayer of Massachusetts receives a patent for a baseball catcher's mask
1901 – the American League was established as a major league
1947 – the color barrier was broken and African-Americans were allowed to join the league
1960 – George Herman “Babe” Ruth hits his 60 th home run
1960s – Marvin Miller became the President of the Baseball Players Union
1961 – Roger Maris breaks Babe Ruth's record
1995 – Cal Ripken broke the record in consecutive games numbering at 2,131 consecutive games
1998 – the great home run race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa
2006 - Barry Bonds hits homer No. 715, passing Babe Ruth for second place on the all-time home run list

1903 – the first World series
1938 – formation of the International Baseball Federation (IBF)
1944 – the International Baseball Federation was renamed to Federacion Internacional de Beisbol Amateur (FIBA)
1973 – Federacion Mundial de Beisbol Amateur (FEMBA) was formed when there was friction formed within the members of FIBA
1976 – IBF and FEMBA reconciled and together formed the International Baseball Association (AINBA)
1984 – the acronym AINBA was changed to IBA
2000 – IBA was renamed to International Baseball Federation (IBAF)
2006 – formation of the World Baseball Classic
