The Fielding Team
The battery
Pitcher – the pitcher stands on the mound located in the middle of the baseball diamond. His primary job is to pitch (throw) the ball at the batter. He also fields ground balls and runs to cover first base.
Catcher – the catcher crouches behind the home plate and catches or block all pitches made by the pitcher to prevent base runners from advancing. With his strong throwing arm, he also prevents bases from getting stolen. He wears protective equipment and a special catching glove designed as a padded target.
The Infielders – their jobs is to field and ground balls hit in their direction and prevent the runners from gaining the base.

Shortstop – this position requires a strong throwing arm as he is farthest from first base.
The Outfielders – their job is to catch any throws made to the outfield. Left, center, and right designates their position on the field.

Manager – determines the lineup and decides how to substitute players during the game
Coach – assists the manager in running and training the team

Utility players – a player who can play several positions
Designated hitter – a player who is, at the start of the game, designated to bat instead of the pitcher in the lineup
