About Basketball

He shoots. He scores! This is a cry you'll often hear in this game; though you'll also hear that as someone throws a crumpled ball of paper into the waste basket. Actually, he's practicing one of the basics of basketball - accuracy. The basic rule: get the ball through the basket of your team from above and score the most points. Actually making it happen is the challenge.

Professionally, it is played on a rectangular court. Teams have equal numbers, usually from 2 to 5 members per game. They literally aim to get the ball over the rim - the thin metal ring through which the ball must pass in order to score a point for their team.

Basketball is a great sport. The concept is simple yet many life lessons are learned by everyone who plays the game. It takes teamwork and real passion to play well. Hand, eye and muscle coordination can be taught but the real lessons are teamwork, camaraderie, fair play, openness and trust.

It is one of the easiest sports to play and is a favorite among many families. All you need is a ball and hoop. With the ring hung over the garage door, and the teams decided, it's time to play. It's a great way to spend time with your kids and a whole lot of fun.

One of the great things about this sport is that it can be played both indoors and outdoors. Mother Nature's temper really can't stop the fun here. You just need to have enough room to move plus the ball and the rim.
