Though there are many basketball leagues around the globe, the most well known one is the National Basketball Association. Founded in 1946, it has greatly popularized professional basketball. These athletes are among the most highly paid in the world. There are currently 30 teams in the league, each based in a particular state of the US . Many great players have emerged from the NBA. Among the best known are Michael Jordan, Shaquile O'Neil, George Mikan, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird. They have helped shape the face of professional and amateur basket ball. |
