“Nerds Are Good Shots”
Believe it or not, in making that perfect shot, a player's mind knowingly or unknowingly calculates angles, planes, velocity, torque and energy – pretty much your average geometry and physics basics. If you had a team of scientists with you in a game, you'd hear them commenting in a language that would require a scientific dictionary to understand, but they wouldn't be far off. A game on the billiard table is science applied into a sport. Whether you like it or not, that nerd behind you might know how to beat you in a game of 8-ball simply because he can understand how the balls move. You too can learn this, but you don't have to get classes and start talking like you're back in the lab. There are basic rules that can be translated into terms you and I can understand. |
