Categories of Car Racing

Car racing has a lot of variations. The most popular of these is Single-seater racing. Names such as Michael Schumacher rose to fame because of single-seater racing. Cars for these races are made especially for one person and designed to run at very high speeds. Single-seater racing is also called open wheel racing. This is due to the fact that the cars used have wheels that are not covered. These races are usually in special closed circuits or streets that are specifically closed for the race.
Rallying is another popular form of car racing. Cars used in rallying are basically production cars which are radically modified. Rallying is also called rally racing. This type of race involves a driver and a co-driver. The aim of the race is for the participants to “rally” to a set of pre-designated points. Rally races are usually held on closed public roads or off-road areas.
Touring car racing also features stock cars which are modified. Tour car racing is held on the road and provides a lot of excitement for the spectators. This type of racing has its roots in Europe. The American version is called stock car racing. An important note about stock racing is that even though the cars look very much like stock cars, they are actually built specifically for this type of racing. Competitors usually have very similar specifications.
Drag racing is a very popular form of car racing that originated in the US. To date, it is one of the most popular forms still. The aim of drag racing is to finish a stretch of road in the shortest time possible. Drag racing courses are fairly short, straight, and level. This type of racing is also popular in other countries such as Brazil, Australia, and Japan.
