Glossary

Algebraic Notation – A method of identifying the squares and keeping scores in a game of chess.

Castling – it is a special move that allows a player to move two pieces at once (The King and a Rook). The player moves the King two squares to its left or right towards its Rook. The Rook then moves to square beside the King towards the center of the board.

En Passant – Occurs when a pawn is moved two squares forward to avoid capture by opponent's pawn.

Capture - To remove an opponent's piece off the board and out of play.

Chessclock – A device that is used to time a chess game.

Trap – A favorable outcome due to a series of moves that was set-up by the person.
