Types of Mountain Climbing

The three types of mountain climbing include:

  • Trail climbing – the most simple and least dangerous of the three, people who go trail climbing simply hike along trails that are not exceedingly steep to reach the top of a relatively small mountain
  • Rock climbing is more challenging in that it entails climbing steep slopes and bigger mountains. People who go rock climbing are generally fully geared up with thick boots, ropes and steel spikes to protect them in their ascent to extremely steep mountain slopes with just their hands and feet.
  • Ice climbing, in the same manner, is also done on very steep mountain peaks that go way above the timberline. People who go ice climbing use ice axes and boot spikes known as crampons.
