Women's Artistic Gymnastics
Women's Artistic Gymnastics is a showcase of strength, agility and flexibility.
Floor exercises
Done to music, it is much like a choreographed dance routine interspersed with tumbling exercises. It showcases the athlete's flexibility and strength as well as their balance.
Vault
Speed, power, strength, balance and precision plus great timing is required to get this event down. The athlete needs to run and leap using a springboard to spring over the vaulting table. More advanced athletes will execute multiple twists before landing on their feet.
Uneven Bars
One of the most beautiful events in the Olympics, it calls for the athlete to swing up, over and around the bars, twisting, swinging and turning over the bars. They can even switch direction mid routine, finishing the routine by landing perfectly balanced on their feet.
Balance Beam
The original catwalk, this is where gymnasts get to show off their perfect balance and beautiful form. They summersault, handspring, twist and turn over a padded, spring beam about 4 feet high, 5m long, and 4 inches wide. The gymnast is at their most graceful as they focus on keeping themselves upright on the narrow beam and dismounting perfectly.
