Triple Crown Thoroughbred Racing ( UK )
The Triple Crown is made up of three races – the Two Thousand Guineas Stake, the Epsom Derby, and the St, Leger Stakes. Three-year old thoroughbred horses are raced in these events. To win the Triple Crown is the ultimate achievement. Although the Triple Crown has been running for 150 years, only 15 horses have the distinction of winning it. The last horse to win the Triple Crown is the renowned Nijinsky II. Experts think it is unlikely that another horse will reach the same achievements as the great Nijinsky II did.
Triple Crown Thoroughbred Racing (US)
The Triple Crown in the US begins with the Kentucky Derby. This starts on the first Saturday of May. The Preakness Stakes follows two weeks later at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore , Maryland . The last event is held in early June at the Belmont Park in Elmont , New York . This is called the Belmont Stakes. The US Triple Crown Races have been around for over 125 years and yet only 11 horses have won all three races. The last one to do this was Affirmed, in 1978.
