About Ice Hockey

Ice hockey is a major form of hockey wherein two teams compete by trying to maneuver a puck (a hard round disc) into the opponent's net past the goal tender known as goulie using a hockey stick. In North America , ice hockey is simply hockey. It is played almost solely in the northern hemisphere and in colder regions such as Canada , Russia , the U.S. and Northern Europe specifically in Scandinavia . Ice hockey has conflicting beginnings. Some say that the game started in Nova Scotia in the early 19th century. Others argue that ice hockey started in Canada . Still, others asserted it started in Europe .
Today, ice hockey is played in 55 countries. It is governed by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHf). Its most famous professional league is the National Hockey League (NHL).
