Infractions and Penalties

Players are penalized for infractions of rules during the game based on the severity of the offense. There are four kinds of penalties. For a minor penalty, a player sits in the penalty box for two minutes. A major penalty requires five minutes in the box. A misconduct would require ten minutes and a game misconduct would automatically send a player out for the whole game. In cases of intentional attempts to injure, the league will review the incident and hand out stiffer suspensions. Offenses ` include:
- boarding – when a player is hit or tripped from behind crushing him into the boards
- charging – when a player checks another player with extreme violence after skating a long distance
- elbowing – when a player uses his elbow to strike another player
- holding – when a player holds an opponent's body
- slashing – when a player swings and strikes another player with his hockey stick
- hooking – when a player uses the blade of his stick to stop another player's movement
- tripping – when a player uses his stick, knee or foot to cause his opponent to fall
