About Lacrosse

A fast-paced team sport, Lacrosse is played with two teams, both with ten players (for men) and twelve players (for women). Players use a netted stick called crosse to pass and catch a rubber ball. The objective of the game is to score goals, worth one point each, by kicking or throwing it into the opponent's goal. The game lasts for four 25-minute quarters and the team with the most points wins. In case of a tie, there are two 5-minute overtimes.

Lacrosse is widely popular in North America and is the fastest growing sport in all levels – from high school, college, and even professionals. It is the continent's oldest sport and is especially popular in the northeastern part of the United States and Canada (being the country's national summer sport). Its popularity is now growing westward, particularly in Illinois , California , Texas , Minnesota , Florida , Oregon , and California .

The Native North Americans invented Lacrosse and was earlier called dehuntshigwa'es in Onondaga ("men hit a rounded object"), da-nah-wah'uwsdi in Eastern Cherokee ("little war"), Tewaarathon in Mohawk language ("little brother of war"), and baaga'adowe in Ojibwe "bump hips". The game was later named lacrosse by early French observers.
