Rugby , also known as rugby football, is a sport that is famous mostly in Europe , Australia , and New Zealand with a growing following in Africa and South America . This sport is a descendant of the common football that was developed at Rugby School and is also the ancestor of American football and Canadian football.

This sport is a highly rigorous activity involving two opposing teams battling for the possession of an oval ball in their attempt to outscore each other. Since its inception and until today, it is a favorite game among people of varying age, gender, and social standing.

Rugby is an old game dating back in the 19 th century. In 1871, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) was established. Founded by 22 various clubs, this has led to the standardization of rules and regulations of this sport in England . Then in 1886, the International Rugby Board (IRB) became the law-making and governing body for rugby football worldwide. From these developments, two codes were developed – the Rugby League and the Rugby Union.
