About Soccer

Five billion fans worldwide. That's just about enough to build a country. Who would have thought that a sport, not commercially promoted at that, would have such an immense popularity?
Soccer is also known as “Football” in countries other than the US and its colonies (past and present), but do not confuse it with the American Football with its pigskin oval ball and heavily protected players. Soccer (as most Americans know it) is that sport with men in jerseys, spiked shoes and shin guards kicking a ball with black hexagons on it. And there is a big difference.
This sport and its worldwide pull has given fame to men who grew up in third world countries like Diego Maradonna and Pele – from Brazil and South Africa, respectively. They're not your typical stars of glitz and glamour. They're hard-knocked fellows who learned to play soccer using bundled up rags and an empty lot with packed dirt as a playing field.
