History

So how did the sport of Soccer really start?

Have you ever noticed how kids love to kick things? Have you observed how much glee they have in kicking a ball? Now think back, your ancestors pretty much did the same thing. It was just a matter of formalizing this playtime activity into a structured sport.

Over history, it did take on some kind of this structure. The Chinese have had the “tsu chu” since as early as 2500 BC. “Tsu Chu” is more like a cross between basketball and soccer since the player kicked animal-skin balls into a hoop perched on a pole.

Aside from China , there are accounts of other ball-kicking activities in other countries like the Sepak Takraw of South East Asia , the pasuckuakohowog of the Native Americans and the Italian calcio .

It was the Italian Giovanni Bardi who coined the term calcio when he set up some rules for the game. Later on, the British gave it more structure and spread the activity among its colonies.
